Archie Goes Gay!

If Archie Comics is adding a gay character, then my dastardly "homosexual agenda" must be working! I've always been a comics fan, but "Archie" always seemed like the safest, most white-bread thing around, so it was never tops on my reading list.

But now, Veronica falls for the new gay guy in Riverdale--Kevin! And he's kinda cute.

You just know some fundies are gonna get their panties all in a tight bunch over this! Read below as Kevin comes out to Jughead.

Day of Silence

No matter how far we think we've come in our society, GLBT students are still bullied and harassed in schools. It happened to me as a kid, and it still happens today. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is asking bloggers to keep a Day of Silence today to draw attention to this issue. Compared to some GLBT kids, I had it easy in high school, but it still got so bad that I would get physically sick before school and would make excuses to stay home. However, the root problem--homophobia--wasn't actually addressed because I attended a Christian school.

So, no more posts today. Make yourself aware and help where you can. Thanks.

McCain Women Break Ranks to Support Gay Marriage

Believe it or not, both mom and daughter are now coming out against California's Prop 8 that stripped the state's gay and lesbian couples of their right to marry. Meghan McCain (below) had previously stated her support for gay couples to marry, and now mom Cindy (top) has done the same! And they're both appearing in "NoH8" ads to show their support. Cindy, of course, has been botoxed and airbrushed to within an inch of her life, almost disappearing into the white background--but I digress. I, for one, appreciate the support. It seems more women "get" gay marriage than men. Naturally, ol' "Mister Magoo" himself, John McCain, is still against it. Makes me wonder how that dinner conversation went when Cindy first broke the news. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of even one of their mansions...

I love what Meghan M said recently: "Marriage equality is not just a Democrat or Republican issue, it is a human one." I hope she's had the opportunity to look dear ol' dad in the face and say, "Daaaad--you're, like, soooooo out of touch!"

Crazy Rev. Fred Phelps Closet Fan of Lady Gaga

If you go with the argument that those who doth protest too much against gays are probably gay themselves--then, Rev. Fred Phelps must be one helluva Lady Gaga fan. He's so entranced by her magic that he's going to start protesting her concerts! I say, Congrats Gaga!--you know you've achieved real fame when Phelps and his band of religious misfits show up at your events.

Here's what Phelps had to say about Our Lady:
"God hates Lady Gaga. ... As much as she'd like to pretend otherwise, there's nothing new or different about this particular hussy's pretentious prancing. Does the simple slut truly think that she can change God's standards by seducing a generation of rebels into joining her in fist-raised, stiffnecked, hard-hearted rebellion against Him? Get real!"

Now, don't you just know Gaga is going to make this part of her quirky freak show!

And what do you mean by "simple slut?!" Seriously, Gaga is ANYTHING but simple. Ha-ha.

Just look at her outfit above--it's perfectly obvious that she's channeling the mighty and ancient Celtic god Cernunnos! I'd watch my back if I were you, Phelps!

Poor, Victimized Carrie Prejean Now Suing Miss California Bosses

I knew this woman wouldn't go away quietly, not now that she's become the Great Martyr of Traditional Marriage, suffering for her "values." Bitch please, you don't know what suffering is! Anyway, now Carrie Prejean is suing the Miss California organization, claiming she was stripped of her sash and crown because of religious discrimination. She's also claiming libel, accusing the Miss C org of spreading all manner of lies about why they fired her.

But don't you dare cry-for-her-Argentina: Miss Prejean is doing just fine touring the country as the latest eye candy for conservative causes.

Miss California Fired!

Guess all didn't turn out so well since Donald Trump let Carrie Prejean keep her crown. Seems Carrie was just too distracted with her marriage crusade to remain a mere pageant winner. So they fired her ass! Read more at Joe.My.God.

Cuba and Russia Have Homosexuals!

Arrests in Moscow

I found it so interesting that in 1 week, both Cuba and Russia had gay pride events, with very different results. While here in the U.S., gay pride parades have become cliche and downright boring, marching in your finest drag can still get you arrested in some places.

Take Russia. Moscow banned a recently planned gay pride parade, and when people began gathering anyway, riot police moved in, broke it up and arrested people. No surprise, I suppose, given the former Communist country's record on human rights. Guess they'll find a way to spin this.

Contrast that with what happened in still-Communist Cuba, where the country held it's first-ever gay rights event. Granted, the government approves everything there or it doesn't happen--but that's a huge step from 2008, when a gay rights rally was banned. It wasn't a full-on parade with leather boys and all, but hey--baby steps! And the event was led by Raul Castro's daughter Mariela, so I guess that's a good thing. She's already known for being a gay rights advocate.

Interesting contrasts and comparisons. And it shows the world that we're not going to be silent, no matter where we live.

Miss California Is the New Conservative Poster Girl---and They Can Have Her!

Because apparently, conservatives only like busty blondes who can't put an intelligent answer together when asked a question. I didn't see the Miss USA pageant, but everyone's talking about how Miss California's answer to a question about gay marriage may have cost her the crown; she placed as first runner-up. Despite the fact that Carrie Prejean's answer made no sense, conservatives are hailing her as some kind of symbol of good ol' American values. I suppose so, if your values are fumbling the facts, parochialism and blatant bigotry.

As a reward for her mediocrity and intolerance, Prejean has appeared on Fox News and other networks, been praised by state legislators and is receiving accolades from various conservative/Christian bloggers and activists. Next thing you know, this chick will replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck on "The View" because Liz is "too liberal!"

So let's dissect, shall we? I'll go line by line, with her answer and my critique.

Miss C: "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or the opposite."
Me: No we don't, sweetie. Right now, only 4 out of 50 states recognize same-sex marriage or civil unions between homosexuals. Your home state of California currently does not, so what "land" do you mean exactly? Are you secretly Canadian, perhaps?

Miss C: "And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman."
Me: Well, you know what, that's sweet. But this is also MY country, and I have beliefs, too. But beliefs can be many things. Some people in this diverse country of ours believe that a woman who prances around stage in revealing clothes like you do is a whore and will go to hell. Others believe that women belong in the home raising children. Still others believe women should be submissive to men in all areas of life. That's the family I was raised in, but unlike you, I can see where my family and my raisin' were wrong.

Miss C: "No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
Me: Well, that makes it all ok! No offense to black people then, because you see, I was raised to think black people are all unintelligent criminals. I was raised to think the same about everyone who isn't white, actually. Which means Obama really shouldn't be President, you know, because he's biracial, which is almost worse than full-blooded black, cause that means some white woman forgot how she was raised. No, that's a crutch, missy. Real leaders and role models don't parrot the beliefs of their families. They think about issues and form their own opinions.

Well, that's it--that's Miss California's stunning defense of heterosexual marriage! She should write a book! Why isn't she running for public office?! Just what we need--another Sarah Palin!

Seriously, what is it with conservative women and their inability to speak coherently on political topics?

And for the record, Miss Cali, should you try any more pageants, remember this: Us queers love us some beauty queens, but we'll turn on you in a hot, damn minute if you burn us! (Anita Bryant anyone?)
