MORE Snow and Ice!

I woke up this morning to a few more inches of snow, and now we have rain/freezing rain! Well, I guess that screws the plans I had tonight to meet friends for dinner and a gallery hop. Things pretty much shut down 'round here when the weather turns bad.

Should I go to my doc appt? I have a routine appointment this morning for some lab work. I may try to call, however, you rarely get through to a real, live human being who can tell you anything, such as whether their office has closed.

And then work. I do have lots to do today, however, the office is open (I checked). Ugh--I so do not want to be out in this mess today!

Storm's a Comin'!

Brrrr! Gotta get all bundled up this weekend for the snow! Maybe the storm will even help facilitate a little romance... Weather service says we could get 6-10 inches in this area--that's SNOW, I'm talking about!

What I'm Meditating on Today

During my last shamanic workshop, I had a "vision," if you will, of stained-glass windows in a cathedral while we were doing one of our spirit journeys. Nothing earth-shattering to tell, except that it was such a soothing image, one of beauty, skill and transcendence. I've been trying to hold that image, those emotions, close to me ever since.

This image reminded me of my vision. It's of Hereford Cathedral in the UK.

And yep, it snowed like crazy here in the Grove over the weekend. Got a few photos around the house but didn't get any out in the woods--darnnit! Daily life got in the way. That, and I realized that I really don't have the clothes to tromp around in that much snow! Seriously, it's been so long since we've had a good snow that I had discarded most of my "snow drag," so to speak. But overall, a good weekend and a nice snow day.

Hope to post more later today--blessings to all my visitors!

A Giant Pile of S%!t

Giant piles--everywhere I look. Yes, we did get snow last night and maybe it's a slight exaggeration to call it a "pile," but with the giant piles of work I have to do, I was panicked that my dear colleagues would not show up today. After all, school was cancelled--ah, winter in the South.

At least I can steal these few brief moments to post a shred of something. Shreds--that's all I got. Shreds and piles ...

A Great Way to Start 2009

Finally back home from our little mountain retreat and had a great time--which feels good to say since my partner and I had a very rough 2008. So maybe the new year has better things in store.

I didn't take very many photos, but I liked this guy here I saw all decked out on the sidewalk. Very dashing, no?

Let's see, favorite parts about the getaway. It was very cold and windy, which was a nice change. And it snowed New Year's Day! The next photo is of some folks trying out the sledding.

Best part was the food! We had a great New Year's Eve dinner (mmmm, roasted figs wrapped in prosciutto) and managed to find a place that served the traditional Southern black-eyed peas and collard greens for New Year's Day. Gotta bank up some good luck and money for 2009! And our lunch yesterday was excellent--best Monte Cristo sandwich I've ever had (crispy, crunchy with powdered sugar and strawberry jam).

And excellent mountain vistas! Seems I did most of the driving and couldn't get in many good photos, but trust me--the views were breaktaking. It was also nice to see a few of the area ski slopes lit up at night, twinkling in the distance.

This last photo is of some buildings in town all decorated for the holidays (across a lake).

So I'm crossing my fingers for more good things in 09!

The First Snow!

It was just like being a kid again. Seeing as how I'm trying to avoid all the bad news these days, I really haven't been paying attention to any news, including the weather. But I woke up to--surprise--a winter wonderland with the season's first snow! It wasn't all that much and it will most likely melt before the end of the day, but I always enjoy a visit from Jack Frost.
