Jackie Chan Biography

Jackie Chan, or well known as Sing Lung in Chinese world, is worldwide famous actor and action hero. Jackie starred in numerous Asia blockbuster hits before making his way to Hollywood with a few box office success as well.

Jackie Chan is known for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, and spontaneous use of random objects as improvised weapons. Jackie was also famous for performing dangerous stunts by himself without the use of stuntman, and has sustained multiple injuries all these years.

Jackie Chan entertainment career didn’t start brightly, he first worked as a stuntman after graduated from Peking Opera School, before being offered some acting roles in low budget movies.

It took years before Jackie Chan made his fame, before that he had to make a living and even starred in porn movies.

It’s in 1978 that Jackie got his first breakthrough with Kung Fu movie Drunken Master. He became an Asian superstar with the movie, which opened his path for many box office hits in years to come.

In early 80s, Jackie along with Sammo Hung and Yuen Piew (his mates from Peking Opera School) had made series of great action cum comedy movies that became box office success, and contributed to the golden era of Hong Kong movies.

Some of the trio’s best include Project A, Lucky Star (trilogy), Wheels on Meals, and Dragons Forever. Dragons Forever (1988) was the last movie the trio worked together.

It was also during the trio’s era that Jackie Chan began to involve in movie directing and action choreography.

Jackie Chan continued to prosper with his movie ventures, including the successful Police Story (and sequels) in the early 1990s. Jackie success in Asia already gained Hollywood interest back then, but Jackie declined a few opportunities to star in Hollywood because he wants his own movies and style to be accepted by the Westerners.

Jackie got his breakthrough in Hollywood with Rumble in the Bronx in 1995, which was filmed mostly in US. The movie was not a huge cinema success, but Jackie Chan had finally showed US audience what he was all about.

Jackie later became worldwide superstar with Hollywood’s production Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon together with a few other movies. Jackie’s fame had prompted US cinemas to show his old Hong Kong movies to the audiences; there’s even an anime that’s adapted from Jackie’s character in his various movies.

Jackie latest movie project is Rush Hour 3, and an unnamed movie with another Asian superstar Jet Li, which will base on Chinese epic novel Journey to the West.

Little known to the West is that Jackie is an established singer in Asia as well. He released over 20 albums although the success is never near what he achieved in movies arena.
